HK begins work on CT9 Hong Kong has every intention of remaining one of Asia's major container hub ports according to the territory's secretary for Planning, Environment and Lands, Patrick Lau. Mr Lau spoke last week at the signing ceremony of land grant documents for Hong Kong's Container Terminal No. 9 (CT9). He said construction of CT9 is important to Hong Kong not only because it will provide sufficient capacity to meet the long term demand of the container port, but it will also enable Hong Kong to rationalise the allocation of the terminals at Kwai Chung. "Following the rationalisation of the berths as part of the CT9 deal, there will be more contiguous berths at Kwai Chung, giving the operators more flexibility and capability to handle the larger container vessels being built by the international shipping lines," Mr Lau said.
