P&CS goes west, MUA claims The Maritime Union of Australia yesterday said it was preparing for a new battle, claiming that a company employing defunct P&C Stevedores labor will bid for work in the West Australian port of Geraldton. Earlier this month, the Geraldton Port Authority announced it would outsource all stevedoring work, with preference to companies using individual contracts (Australian Workplace Agreements). The MUA alleges that a new company, identified as CDF Australian, was registered three weeks ago and comprises the core workforce of P&C Stevedores, including some of those who were to be trained in Dubai.
Westrail defends sale options Westrail yesterday defended its decision to consider all possible options for the privatisation of its rail business, including an option to include the Perth to Kalgoorlie section of the interstate track in the sale package. A Westrail spokesman insisted that its sale as a vertically-integrated railway was just one of the options being considered in the independent consultants' scoping study into the sale of the state-owned railway.
NQ Direct frequency, speed increased National Rail and Queensland Rail are now operating the NQ Direct fast train service five days a week and with faster transits.
