Gulf lease sale attracts $171 million in high bids Yesterday's Minerals Management Service (MMS) sale of offshore oil and natural gas leases in the Central Gulf of Mexico attracting $171,804,696 million in high bids from 67 companies. By contrast, in last year's Central Gulf sale, companies submitted $810.4 million in high bids for tracts, just off the 1997 record of $824.1 million. In 1997, companies submitted 1,790 bids on 1,032 tracts.
Record first quarter for Carnival Carnival Corporation today reported net income of $157.8 million ($0.26 Diluted EPS) on revenues of $748.3 million for its first quarter ended February 28, 1999, compared to net income of $109.9 million ($0.18 Diluted EPS) on revenues of $557.8 million for the same quarter in 1998. Earnings per share increased 44 percent in the first quarter of 1999 versus the same period in 1998.
