La direction de l'armement CMA a simplement décidé d'entamer une réflexion sur l'évolution à terme des trois services qu'assure l'armement d'Asie vers l'Europe et retour.

    La Région flamande va développer un système intégré pour la gestion de ses voies d'eau. Baptisé RIS-Vlaanderen (RIS pour RivierInformatieService), le projet implique le couplage et le renforcement de certaines banques de données, ainsi que l'informatisation et l'automatisation d'un certain nombre de tâches comme la perception des droits de navigation et la commande d'ouvrages d'art. Le réseau RIS s'inscrit dans la volonté des autorités flamandes de rendre la navigation intérieure plus attrayante en tant qu'alternative au transport routier, par le biais d'un meilleur service. Le système, qui est voué à s'intégrer à un vaste réseau européen, sera géré à partir d'Evergem, où une plate-forme opérationnelle 24 heures sur 24 fera également fonction de centre de crise.

Une tendance que les agents maritimes ne manqueront pas d'apprécier. A force de perdre de l'argent, les armateurs commencent à réaliser qu'il est impératif de corriger le tir. Le phénomène le plus marquant dans ce contexte est la volonté qui se manifeste sur le segment eastbound, d'Europe vers l'Asie. Jusqu'à présent, les adaptations annoncées n'ont pas connu leur plein effet, toutefois redressement il y a, d'ailleurs favorisé par une reprise des volumes. La crise financière asiatique semble toucher à sa fin.
