  • RINA says Erika cracking could have been controlled
    The results of a RINA internal technical investigation indicate that the Erika was presumably lost because an initial crack in the low part of the hull below the water line was misjudged and mishandled, allowing it to develop until the hull broke up eighteen hours later.
  • Cruise industry employees sentenced for Alaska pollution
    A U.S. District Judge in Anchorage, Alaska, last week sentenced Nanne Hogendoorn, Hantje deJong and Dirk Smeenk, for violations of the Clean Water Act. Each was sentenced to two years unsupervised probation and a fine of $10,000. Hogendoorn, Holland America's director of technical operations in Seattle, is the first shore-based cruise industry employee ever sentenced for a criminal violation of the Clean Water Act.

  • Atlantique Nord: une rationalisation qui s'avère délicate
    Depuis plusieurs mois, on annonce comme imminente la grande rationalisation sur le secteur de l'Atlantique Nord et régulièrement, la nouvelle tant attendue est reportée de quelques semaines. Tout se joue actuellement entre le groupe Grand Alliance et Americana Ships, et indirectement avec les deux partenaires MOL et APL, qui louent des slots à bord des unités de Lykes Lines. Les négociations dans lesquelles ils sont engagées semblent particulièrement ardues, puisqu'elles se poursuivent toujours. Aux dernières nouvelles, on annonçait une conclusion pour ce vendredi, mais rien n'était moins sûr. Il faudra encore patienter.
  • SJ Gods et DB Cargo signent un accord de coopération
    Alors qu'on attendait plutôt un accord entre les départements marchandises des chemins de fer danois et allemand (en fait Railion Benelux du fait de la joint-venture avec NS Cargo), c'est un accord de coopération entre DB Cargo et les chemins de fer suédois SJ Gods qui vient d'être conclu.
  • Sabena: la croissance du trafic passagers est supérieure à la moyenne européenne
    Au cours des trois premiers mois de l'année 2000, la Sabena a transporté au total 2.374.231 passagers, soit une hausse de 12,8% par rapport à la même période de l'an dernier. La compagnie déclare que cette croissance est supérieure à la moyenne européenne et qu'elle a été réalisée dans un environnement économique plus difficile.
  • Unitra a déposé le bilan
    La société Unitra (Hamme), a été déclarée en faillite par le tribunal de commerce de Dendermonde. L'entreprise employait une quarantaine de personnes. Elle avait été rachetée en novembre dernier par Geert Verbeke , qui exploite un terminal à containers à Willebroek. Unitra avait subi depuis lors une baisse des activités, entre autres en raison de l'arrêt des transports internationaux. Un curateur a été nommé.
