    Les complexes portuaires dans le delta Escaut-Rhin doivent à différents niveaux faire face à une hausse de la concurrence, mais en revanche les relations réciproques et les liens avec d'autres ports et centres multimodaux situés dans l'hinterland se renforcent davantage. La relation avec Duisbourg, qui fonctionne comme centre de distribution pour le vaste hinterland de la Rhénanie-Westphalie, représente un exemple-type.
