    Le chiffre d’affaires de Sea Containers, qui est notamment actif dans le secteur ferry (via les filiales Silja et Hoverspeed), le transport ferroviaire (via GNER) et la location de containers maritimes (via GE SeaCo), a fait un très léger saut en avant l’an dernier, passant de 1,34 à 1,36 milliard de dollars, mais le bénéfice net du groupe a reculé de 48,26 à 44,87 millions d’USD. Le “transport de passagers” reste le pilier le plus important du groupe, mais la part de cette division dans le chiffre d’affaires a baissé de 918,64 à 885,51 mio. d’USD. Les “opérations containérisées” ont également perdu du terrain, régressant de 154,85 à 151,85 mio. d’USD de chiffre d’affaires. Des accords ont été signés pour la vente des ports de Heysham et Newhaven.
  • Le transport fluvial de containers conserve une forte marge de croissance
    Année après année, la croissance effective du transport de containers par la voie fluviale dépasse toutes les prévisions. La navigation fluviale réalise cette expansion sur deux fronts: elle gagne en volume et en part de marché. Ce secteur est en effet parvenu à accroître sa part de marché de manière systématique au cours des dernières années. Cette constatation vaut pour tous les pays européens doté d’un réseau de voies navigables.

    “Nous bénéficions d’une localisation stratégique. Nous n’avons pas besoin de draguer, la profondeur d’eau étant de 18 mètres. D’ores et déjà, nous traitons de grands armements containérisés comme Mærsk Sealand, Hapag-Llloyd et P&ONL. La zone de Chicago/Détroit représente 20% de notre trafic containérisé. C’est dire que nous sommes également fortement axés sur le marché des Etats-Unis. Ça bouge chez nous. L’année dernière, nous avons traité un trafic de 548.404 TEU, en hausse de 19% (4,47 mio. de t), et nous projetons un nouveau terminal à containers, qui sera au diapason des nouvelles générations de grands PC.” David F. Bellefontaine, président et CEO de la Halifax Port Authority, se montre très optimiste en ce qui concerne l’avenir de son port dans le secteur de la containérisation.
