    Les ministres européens des Transports aborderont au cours de leur rencontre du 7 décembre à Bruxelles la proposition de directive de la Commission européenne sur la compétence des chauffeurs professionnels dans le transport routier de marchandises et de personnes. Un certain nombre de points importants de cette proposition ont progressé lors de la préparation officielle entre les Etats-membres et la Commission, mais il serait bien hasardeux de prétendre que les ministres arriveront cette fois à un accord. La proposition de la Commission concerne l’obligation d’une formation professionnelle - harmonisée à l’échelle européenne - pour les chauffeurs dans le transport routier (tant de personnes que de marchandises) dans le but d’accroître la sécurité routière et de favoriser une conduite plus respectueuse de l’environnement.

    La situation ne s’améliore décidément pas rapidement au tunnel sous la Manche, où le transport ferroviaire de marchandises est toujours victime des mesures de réduction du trafic prises en conséquence des tentatives répétées des réfugiés du centre de la Croix Rouge à Sangatte pour traverser le tunnel en se glissant à bord des trains de marchandises. La dernière victime en date de cette situation est la société CTL (Combined Transport Ltd), qui a mis temporairement fin hier à son service entre Paris et le Royaume-Uni.
