Cette société est un des leaders sur le marché français de la messagerie routière domestique, et elle est en pleine croissance, puisque son CA devrait augmenter de plus de 20% cette année, après un bond de plus de 25% l’année passée. Ces développements ont pesé sur les résultats, mais le groupe demeure bénéficiaire. En acquérant Joyau, Schenker France se renforce dans le transport routier, au point que cette activité dépassera très nettement le maritime et l’aérien dans son CA.

    Malgré les ennuis et les coûts supplémentaires que ces 10 jours de blocage des ports américains de la côte ouest lui ont coûté, l’armement CMA CGM n’en poursuit pas moins les initiatives visant à développer de nouveaux services. Ainsi, des études, actuellement à un stade avancé, concernent le lancement vers le début de l’année prochaine d’un nouveau service pendulaire.

    Le Shipper Forum annuel de l’European Shippers’ Council (ESC) a en lien cette année sous le signe de la recherche de solutions pour le short sea et le dossier de la sécurité dans le transport maritime. Le succès des armateurs short sea dépend souvent de trois facteurs: une route fixe, l’usage de matériel spécialisé et un engagement à long terme. Il semble en outre qu’à part les armateurs, surtout les ports méditerranéens ont besoin de soutien public afin de stimuler ce mode de transport. La septième édition du Shipper Forum a eu lieu à Athènes cette semaine et a été organisée par l’European Shippers’ Council (ESC) en collaboration avec Mare Forum.

    “Cette région a droit à une écluse nouvelle et plus grande! Elle est nécessaire pour soutenir la dynamique économique, tant à Gand qu’à Terneuzen.” C’est en ces termes que l’échevin du port de Gand Daniël Termont a clôturé la session académique organisée à l’occasion de la publication des trois études successives sur la réalisation de la nouvelle écluse maritime à Terneuzen. Cette écluse doit non seulement ouvrir l’arrière-port de Terneuzen et la zone portuaire de Gand aux navires de plus grandes dimensions mais doit en première instance éviter que la congestion croissante de la Westsluis ne freine l’expansion économique de la région ou qu’une éventuelle interruption du trafic via cette écluse très fréquentée et déjà agée de 35 ans ne coupe les ports concernés du monde extérieur. Une nouvelle adaptation du canal maritime vers Gand - avec un élargissement et un approfondissement à 18 mètres de la voie d’eau jusqu’au Rodenhuizendok - pourra être envisagée dans un stade ultérieure, a souligné Termont. Le ministre flamand des Travaux Publics Steve Stevaert n’a pas désiré s’engager formellement quant à la réalisation de la nouvelle écluse mais a promis que le dossier serait analysé dans le cadre de la vision à long terme (VLT) de l’estuaire de l’Escaut et que la commission scaldienne compétente en la matière présentera bientôt un “plan phasé” qui délimitera la voie vers une décision définitive.
