THE competition watchdog has agreed to allow the managers of Newcastle's port to cut coal exports from all miners in a bid to curb a dramatic increase in demurrage charges.
Miners who export their coal from the Port of Newcastle have been hit with charges of about $US80,000 a day ($105,000) for each extra day ships have to wait to be loaded.
More than 40 ships, about 1 per cent of the world's coal fleet, remain queued off the coast waiting for their chance to dock
