Coal loading and shipping delays in Australia are increasing freight rates and coal prices as ships are being held up at ports amid surging Asian demand.
Ship queues outside the port of Newcastle, the world's biggest coal export harbour, have more than doubled in the past year to an average of 41 in January, while at Dalrymple Bay terminal in Queensland queues have gone as high as 15.
