    The luxury of six days without silver birds and their jet engine contrails in the spring blue skies over northern Europe reminded us of how over dependent we have become on air travel to shrink the world. The volcanic fallout-induced near week-long paralysis of European air travel caused unprecedented widespread disruption - but every volcanic ash-laden cloud has a silver lining and in this case it is an ill Icelandic wind that has blown some good news in the direction of container shipping; providing it is up to the challenge.
