Today in the Monfalcone shipyard of Fincantieri
Mein Schiff Relax, the first of two
newly developed "inTUItion" class cruise
dual-fuel (liquefied natural gas and marine gas oil) that
plant is being built for TUI Cruises, a joint venture between the
TUI AG and Royal Caribbean Cruises groups.
With approximately 160,000 gross tons, these units
will form the backbone of TUI's fleet of the future
Cruises. The order is based on a prototype design developed by
Fincantieri which is studying the possibility of having them operated
in the future also with low-emission biofuels. The units
of the class will also be equipped with catalytic converters
(compliant with the Euro 6 standard) and a generative turbine that
uses the waste heat of diesel generators and a
electrical connection from the ground, ensuring almost
emissions while in port (about 40% of the
operating time). Finally, the ships will be equipped with a system of
Innovative waste treatment even more efficient in
able to transform organic substances into charcoal
by thermal process.
