
The Hong Kong Postal Service today announced the
suspension with immediate effect of the acceptance of shipments of
goods destined for the United States in response to the signature affixed to the
last April 2 by Donald Trump to the executive decree that,
in relation to duty-free shipments from China to the USA,
abolishes from 2 May the de minimis treatment that exempts
from customs duties U.S. imports from China of
low value. Hongkong Post denounced that "States
United are unreasonable, intimidating and impose taxes in a way that
abusive" and specified that "it will not collect in
in any way imposed on behalf of the United States".
The Chinese postal company has announced that for shipments
bound for the USA that have yet to be loaded on ships or planes
senders will be contacted to arrange for the return of the
shipping and reimbursement of postage.
Specifying that other postal items containing only documents,
without goods, will not be affected by the suspension of
shipments to the USA, the postal service pointed out that,
'for the purpose of sending articles to the United States, citizens of
Hong Kong will have to be prepared to pay exorbitant tariffs and
unreasonable due to unjustified and intimidating actions
of the United States".
