25 June 2026), the International Maritime Organization has announced the decision, pending clarifications, to temporarily suspend the operations of evacuation of the ships still waiting to be able to transit in the Strait of Hormuz. "As a result of the start of the evacuation plan of the IMO, thanks to which several ships have already been evacuated successfully - the general secretary of the IMO has explained, Arsenio Dominguez - I decided to temporarily suspend the implementation in order to verify that the necessary security guarantees continue to be in force for the ships present in our list of evacuation and for all those in the region".
Specifying that he was informed of the incident in the Gulf of Oman against a ship that crossed the Strait of Hormuz, Dominguez specified that "this ship is not transited within the scope of the IMO evacuation plan. I have always reiterated that the safety of seafarers remains the absolute priority. Therefore - he added - to ensure a coordinated approach and the safety of navigation, the evacuation plan will be suspended until you will have no further clarification".
Meanwhile, today the Taiwanese navigation company Evergreen has announced that, when it was hit by an unidentified object while it was 3.6 nautical miles southeast of Khawr Naiwah, in the Oman, the container port Ever Lovely was sailing on the route recommended by the British United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO). The company confirmed that the incident caused damage to the superstructure of the bridge, while no crew member reported injuries or damage to the cargo shipped. Moreover, the device did not compromise the navigability of the ship that left the Strait of Hormuz.
