On 29 and 30 September next at the UN headquarters in Geneva will host a meeting of experts on the impact of climate change on the ports which was organized by the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD).
Stressing that the ports can be affected directly and indirectly by climate change, which can lead to phenomena such as rising sea levels, adverse weather conditions and rising temperatures, UNCTAD pointed out that over 80% of trade world trade is seaborne and maritime transport and ports play a vital role in the supply chain. For access to markets is therefore essential to carefully consider what can be the impact of climate change on the system of shipping and ports in various parts of the world.
