
In 2024, the Port of Rotterdam handled 435.8 million
tons of goods, with a slight decrease of -0.7% on the year
determined by the reduction in the volume of liquid bulk
as well as those of rolling stock and conventional goods against
of a resilience in the dry bulk segment and an increase in
containerized cargo.
In the period October-December 2024, the
sharper quarterly decline in goods for the year, being
107.2 million tonnes were handled, with a reduction of
-2% on the last quarter of 2023. In the container sector alone
traffic was 32.3 million tons (+1%),
volume achieved with a container handling of 3.4
million TEUs (+5%). Quarterly rolling stock traffic
recorded an increase of +1% with 6.1 million tons, while
conventional goods, with 1.3 million tonnes, are
decreased by -12%. The overall decline in liquid bulk cargo is
-6% with 48.5 million tons handled, of which
23.8 million tons of crude oil (-8%), 13.2 million
tonnes of refined petroleum products (-8%), 2.9 million
of tonnes of liquefied natural gas (-11%) and 8.6 million tonnes of liquefied natural gas.

was 19.0 million tonnes (+6%), including
7.4 million tons of minerals and scrap (-8%), 5.7 million
of tons of coal (+13%), 2.8 million tons of
agricultural bulk (+25%) and 3.1 million tonnes of other bulk
dry (+19%).
In the whole of 2024, containerized traffic amounted to
to 133.4 million tonnes, up +2.5% year-on-year
with container handling that was
equal to over 13.8 million TEUs (+2.8%). In the rolling stock sector
traffic was 25.3 million tons (-2.1%) and
in that of conventional goods by 5.8 million tons
(-10,0%). In the liquid bulk sector, the following were handled
200.0 million tonnes (-2.7%), of which 97.8 million tonnes
tonnes of crude oil (-4.5%), 55.6 million tonnes of
petroleum products (+0.8%), 11.3 million tonnes of gas
liquefied natural waste (-5.3%) and 35.4 million tonnes of other
liquid bulk (-2.2%). Dry bulk cargo amounted to 71.2
million tonnes (+0.8%), with 29.7 million tonnes of
minerals and scrap (+5.7%), 19.0 million tonnes of coal
(-18.0%), 10.3 million tonnes of agricultural bulk (-2.7%) and
12.2 million tons of other cargo (+38.6%).
