
Estonian State Fleet (ESF)
has ordered the Polish shipyard Crist SA to design and
construction of a fifth ferry that will enter service
at the end of 2028 and which will be the first of the fleet of the
company to use green electricity from the grid
as the main energy source. The saleswoman has
a value of 49.93 million euros and the construction will be
financed with 28 million euros from the Modernization Fund
of the European Union.
The new vessel, designed by LMG Marine France's subsidiary
Toulouse by the Norwegian LMG Marin, will be equipped with a
three MWh batteries that will allow it to sail on the route
Kuivastu-Virtsu under normal conditions using only
electricity, while with more adverse marine conditions
and in special situations he will be able to make use of the energy
produced by biodiesel generators. The range of the ferry will be
of at least a thousand nautical miles.
The ferry, almost 100 meters long and with a capacity of
up to 380 passengers and up to 110 cars or eight trucks, will be
in ice class 1B which involves navigation in waters with ice up to
at a thickness of 60 centimeters at a speed of at least two
and the maintenance of normal operating speed in
presence of ice of 20 centimeters.
