La più recente previsione di AXS-Alphaliner sull'evoluzione della flotta mondiale di portacontainer indica per l'inizio del 2010 un incremento del 65% della capacità di trasporto rispetto a quella messa in campo all'inizio di quest'anno.
Particolarmente rilevante l'aumento delle navi di capacità superiore a 7.500 teu, che all'inizio del 2010 offriranno complessivamente spazi di carico per quasi 2,5 milioni di teu, con una crescita del 250% rispetto al 1' gennaio scorso. Consistente anche l'aumento (+69%) delle portacontainer di fascia compresa tra 5.000 e 7.500 teu, così come quello delle navi della capacità di 4.000-5.000 teu (+62%).
